Boat Motor Parts: How to Upgrade Your Old Boat
There are many reasons you might wish to upgrade your boat motor parts. For one thing, it is much cheaper to upgrade your boat motor than to buy a new one. You may want more speed or you may simply need to change out a part before it goes out on you in the middle of the lake. Whatever the case may be, it is fairly easy to upgrade motor parts to suit your needs.
Upgrading your boat motor will mean replacing a lot of motor parts. Speed will always be a boat owner's obsession and there is a continuous desire for a more powerful boat motor. Unfortunately power doesn't come cheap. But fortunately it can come cheaper than buying a new boat motor altogether when you upgrade motor parts.
However, be warned that the results of upgrading motor parts is that when you change one part you are likely to change another, and another, and another. Some stock boat motor parts will not be able to make up for the boost in power brought on by suping up a specific component.
Here is a great example of how upgrading motor parts can work. Let’s say you boost your boat motor’s horsepower by 50 percent, or even more, with a supercharger/EFI kit. But the upgrade destroys the stock stern-drive, which means you'll need to change out those motor parts with ones that can handle the power you added with the other boat motor parts.
Now your boosted-up engine can go faster, but only if it has a bigger-pitch propeller. Your propeller will have to be changed with a four or five-blade one. Unfortunately, the extra speed your boat will be running at will destroy your cable-assist hydraulic steering system. Now you'll have to change out the cable-assist to a full hydraulic steering system, causing you to buy even more boat motor parts.
The good news of all this is that once you have changed all those boat motor parts you will still have spent less money than you would spend on a brand new faster boat motor. It takes a lot of work and extra time to upgrade your boat, but it is well worth the effort once your modified boat motor is complete. This can even increase the value of your boat, and cause you to have even more fun out on the water.
